CARE PATHWAY

Your intervention

To make things easier for you during your operation, here is the care pathway at the ICEHG and Clinique ARAGO. It comprises 3 stages: preparation, the operation itself and postoperative discharge.

Surgical consultation

This first consultation is a surgical consultation. It takes place with one of our specialist ICHG surgeons: Drs KERBOULL, SAILHAN or ZILBER.

As each case is unique, we will work with you to address your specific issues: your hipyour kneeor your shoulder. By examining your medical history and antecedents, the specialists will determine the best solution for you.

We'll explain what the operation involves, how it's performed and the immediate and long-term after-effects. We will also tell you about the benefits and risks of the operation.

Anaesthetic consultations

The consultation

Once you have decided to undergo surgery and have met the surgeon, you will then meet the anaesthetist. To offer you the best quality of care and to ensure cohesion within our team, surgeons and anaesthetists work in pairs. This means that the same anaesthetist looks after all the patients of the same surgeon.

In addition, the anaesthetist you see in consultation is the one who will put you to sleep on the day of the operation. He or she will also follow you after the operation at the Arago clinic. At the ICHG, we believe that it is more reassuring for you to benefit from a complete follow-up by the same specialist. The anaesthetist will take care of your discharge prescriptions.

It is during this consultation that you and the anaesthetist will decide on the type of anaesthetic (general, epidural, locoregional, etc.).

Pre-operative assessment

In order to make an effective decision, you should bring the results of your pre-operative check-up with you to your consultation.

In general, this assessment comprises three distinct elements:

  • Blood
  • Cardiological, with ECG (electrocardiogram) and vascular (Doppler) tests
  • Dental

You should be aware that, depending on your age or other factors, the anaesthetist may request other specific tests. Don't hesitate to prepare all your questions before the anaesthetic consultation.

Recommendations

Preparing for the operation

The day before the operation, the department nurse will explain the protocol for preparing the patient for the operation:

  • Two showers with betadine and shampoo
  • Hair removal
  • Detersion
  • Smearing the area.

Please note: before going down to the operating theatre, you must remove your contact lenses, removable dentures and hearing aids, make-up, nail varnish, jewellery and piercings.

It will then tell you the time when you should stop eating or drinking (fasting).

Your personal items

We advise you against bringing valuables and jewellery with you to hospital. However, all rooms are equipped with safes so that you can safely store your personal valuables*.

*The clinic cannot be held responsible for the theft, disappearance or deterioration of any object that has not been deposited in the safe (Law no. 92-644 of 06/07/1992 and decree no. 93-550 of 28/03/1993).

Hospitalisation costs

The procedures carried out by the ICHG are recognised by the French social security system, although it does not reimburse them itself.

However, it is regularly informed, as are the tax authorities.

Before you are admitted to hospital, we will tell you how much your surgeon's and anaesthetist's fees will exceed, which will be paid (along with any additional costs) when you are discharged.

Some mutual insurance companies cover these costs and fees, so check with them.

If you have social insurance cover in France

The only costs you will have to pay are :

- Hotel costs

  • Rates vary according to the category of room required (single or double).
  • Telephone costs and additional catering (meals, drinks)
  • An accompanying bed

- A fixed daily rate and a fixed co-payment not covered by Social Security are charged to all hospitalised patients (law no. 83-25 of 19 January 1983 and decree no. 2006-707 of 19 June 2006), except in the case of an accident at work. The amounts are set by regulation.

- Additional fees for the surgeon and anaesthetist These correspond to the amount of fees charged by the practitioner in addition to the conventional fixed fee paid directly by the health insurance scheme on the basis of the current coding of the surgical procedure performed. The estimate given at the time of the consultation will show this additional fee. You will sign a document stating that you accept these additional fees when you enter the establishment.

Other medical expenses :

Expenses relating to splints, canes, corsets, crutches and compression stockings are then reimbursed by the French Social Security system..

If you are not covered by social security, you will be responsible for these costs.

Don't forget to ask your mutual insurance company!

After consulting the estimate for your operation, your mutual insurance company may be able to pay some or all of these additional fees and other expenses related to your hospitalisation depending on your personal contract.

You will be required to pay all costs at the time of discharge.

SPECIAL CASES

If you do not have French social security cover

If you are a foreign national and an EU national, you must be in possession of a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).

If you are not covered by Social Security, you will continue to pay the full cost of your hospitalisation.

In this case, we will send you an estimate of all the costs involved. Once the estimate has been accepted, you will be asked to pay the clinic by bank transfer before your admission (and not at the time of your discharge).
